History about True locals

We come from a long line of builders. My great grandfather, Sydney Albert Bennell, was born at Richmond Victoria in 1885 and moved to Sydney in his teens.

Sydney Albert Bennett

Sydney Albert Bennett is the fourth person from left.

Sydney worked as a carpenter/ builder, in the greater Sydney area, he is the fourth from left in the photo above. The photo was taken in the early 1900s at house in Strathfield where he was the head carpenter, the builder stands to the far right in his suit.

My grandfather, Eric Sydney Bennell, was born in North Sydney in 1911 , also worked under his father starting as a carpenter and working his way up to building on the Northern Beaches. Bennell & Sons

Eric built thousands of homes in amongst Beacon Hill, Davidson, Belrose and Frenchs Forest, when they where all new suburbs. He also helped built many of our local Primary schools.

I have followed my grandfather just as he did his father into the building industry. I completed my carpentry apprenticeship in 1986 and just as he did, I worked my way up to becoming a builder in 1993.

Grove building can honestly say that we have been involved in building on the Northern Beaches for over 100 years.
